The Letter from Mary Pat Grafstein, Executive Director:
The Smithtown Industry Advisory Board (IAB) has been an integral part of the business community and the Smithtown Central School District for the past 31 years. Started by Susan Gubing in 1977, this very active advisory board links the business community to the school community. We’re proud to have the oldest and largest Advisory Board on Long Island! With over 250 members, the IAB is active in all areas of curriculum and enhances the education that the Smithtown students get in their classrooms.
This is a very special organization! Our IAB members are largely responsible for the success of many programs such as Business Olympics, Strictly Student Film Festival, Junior Achievement High School Heroes, Female Power Brunch, International Business Career Day & Technology is Now Career Fair. In addition our members fund several scholarships each year for deserving students.
Our Business Co-Chairs are Mr. Thomas Ambery. Mr. Ambery is the Senior Vice President of MTV Networks and is a district resident with two children currently in our schools and one who has graduated from Smithtown West. Tom has been a member of the Industry Advisory Board for approximately 8 years. Mr. Robert Mattson is the Executive Vice President of Sanna Mattson MacLeod Advertising here in Smithtown. Bob is a resident of Smithtown and his children have all graduated from Smithtown schools. He has been involved in the Industry Advisory Board for approximately 16 years. We are very lucky to have these two dedicated people holding the position of Co-Chairs of the IAB for the upcoming year.
All business people, alumni, parents, students, and teachers are invited to join us on the Advisory Board. There are many benefits of membership - please use the links above to explore the site to learn more about us! There are no membership fees, no requirements to fulfill…..…just a willingness to assist in enhancing the education of the youth of Smithtown.
If you’d like to be on our e-mail list and learn about all upcoming meetings and projects, please drop an e-mail to email@example.com. Tom, Bob and I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming meetings and events and working with you to make the next school year as successful for our students as the 32 years we have already completed!
